The View from Saturday - Discussion 1

I hope you're enjoying The View from Saturday. Please post in the comments section your answers to the questions below:

1. What new words have you learned from reading this book? What do they mean?

2. What do you think so far of the format of this book? (Meaning the way the author has a chapter that begins with a story about the quiz bowl and then jumps to a personal story about one of The Souls.) Do you like the way it is written from different points of view, or would you prefer one narrator? Why do you feel the way you do?

3. Please write 2-3 sentences about the book. You can talk about something you like, something you don't like, a prediction you have made, a connection or inference you've made, or anything else you'd like to discuss.

BEFORE YOU WRITE - please read what the other students have written and keep their thoughts in mind as you write yours.

This post must be on the blog by Friday at the beginning of class.

Blog Post on A Book You're Reading

Hi literacy group,

This online learning is not nearly as much fun as having you all here in the classroom. I sure do miss you! You are doing a great job with your assignments, though. Keep up the good work.

Here is where I would like you to post about your book you're reading. Since you have only just started it, here is what I would like you to write about:

  • Tell us the title and author of your book
  • Tell us why you chose to read this book.
  • Descirbe the author's style of writing. For example is the story full of action, full of description, dialogue, or inner thinking?
  • We have been working on using action, description, dialogue, and inner thinking in our own writing. Think about the author's work you have been reading. Which of these four elements of writing does your author do best? Give us specific examples.

Put your post in the comments section of this post. Your post is due by Monday.

Stay in touch!

Walk Two Moons - Open Discussion

Hi Readers,

I loved sharing chapters 32-39 with you today. Walk Two Moons is such a great story, isn't it? There are surprises and twists throughout. I hope you are enjoying it as much as I am.

Tonight, I would like you to contribute to a discussion about what we read today. What do you think about the things that were revealed today? How should Phoebe respond to what happened to her family? What did you think of Sal's kiss? What do you think of Mr. Birkway and the journals? You may comment on any of these things or add ideas of your own.

When you write, please don't forget to use proper spelling and grammar. This is not a place for instant message-speak. I will be grading for the content of your ideas as well as the way you have written them.

I can't wait to read what you have to say!

Love,
Mrs. Deutsch

post 3

I think Ben likes Sal and that he wants to be a cartoon artist when he grows up. When Sal is going on her trip I think that she is remembering the things about her mom that make her mom special. I would like to know why Ben is staying with his cousin Mary Lou, and what happend to his parents. Maybe they´re working out a divorce or maybe they´re just going to abandon Ben at Mary Lou´s house. I think the reason Pheobe´s mom left is because Pheobe and Prudence are being to hard for her and she is freaking out.

Walk Two Moons Post #3

This blog post is a free post. You may write a paragraph about whatever you would like to say about the book. Before you post, please read what others have written and try to comment on their comments, too. Make this a discussion post.

Have fun!
