Topic 1: Choose one of the characters in the book and tell what you like about the way Sharon Creech has described this character. What unique characteristics does the character have? What makes him/her different from other characters in the book?
Topic 2: What do you think about Phoebe? Would you be her friend? Give some examples of things she does that would annoy you if you knew her. Why do you think she acts this way? Can you pinpoint anything in her life that would cause her to treat people the way she does?
Topic 3: Give some examples of ways Sharon Creech uses humor in her writing. What are some parts in this story that have made you laugh or smile? Why do you think she uses humor, as an author? Why do you enjoy reading stories that make you laugh?
Topic 4: If you were Sal, what would you do about your father's relationship with Mrs. Cadaver? Would you talk to your father about how you feel? Do you feel that Sal should express her feelings to her dad, or do you think it is none of her business? What do YOU think happened to Mr. Cadaver?

ReplyDeleteIf I were sal I would defenatley talk to my dad about mrs cadaver. although I dont think she is all that evil and I specially dont think there was any mr cadaver. and if there was one they probably just got divorsed. (I think the last name is just a coinsidence.)

ReplyDeleteI think Phoebe is very polite and nice. I would probably be her friend if I knew her. But sometimes, she would get too polite and she might get a little bit annoying. I think Phoebe acts this way because she doesn't feel comfortable living next to Mrs. Cadaver and Mrs. Partridge since she is afraid that Mrs. Cadaver will chop her up like she thinks she did to her husband. Phoebe might be taking on her parents' characteristics; being so polite and nice.

ReplyDeleteI think Sal should not disturb her dad's love. I also think Mrs.Cadaver fought with Mr.Cadaver and got blind by the knife Mr.cadaver had.(Although that would be freaky.)

ReplyDeleteif i where Sal i would talk to my dad about it. until now by the way that Pheebe describes Ms. Cadaver she´s starting to scare me with the description of her voice sounding like rusty leaves and there probably never was a Mr. Cadaver because i never heard in the story about her children and if there was they probably just got divorced. Pheebe is sometimes too dramatic.

ReplyDeleteWith those huge blue eyes and that curly golden hair, on that normal round head would make anyone think that Phoebe is a cute little average girl. I´m not saying she is evil or anything, but too much class of hers can become poison.It does not help her to become a better person: I believe Phoebe has her way of noticing something wrong on every person. Even though Phoebe´s family has some wrong things itself...But anyways, Phoebe is secure enough to deny it. And since her point of view for¨perfect¨is full of class and politeness, other ¨unperfect¨families are like aliens to her. And that is why she hides her frienship with the ¨weird¨ new girl, Salamanca at school. Fron my own point of view, I think that Phoebe has to learn not to judge a book by its cover. It´s a pity for someone with such great qualities like her wonderfull manners, respect, secureness, and precence, to be an ignorant. Phoebe could be a really good and succeding person, because lucky for her, she was raised as a very respectable young ladie. I feel sorry for her because she does not notice the mistake she is making by criticizing everybody like that.

ReplyDeleteIf I was Sal I would tell my dad how I feel about Mrs.Cadaver, And remember him that he has a wife that just left so I would say to go get your wife back. Yes I would talk to my father about how I feel about him and Mrs.Cadaver. In one I would but in the other hand I wouldn't because maybe he will come out with news like we are getting married or something like that. I think Mrs.Cadaver killed Mr.Cadaver the day she met Sal's father. I also think she killed him because she might have thought that Sal's dad was way better than her old husand so she killed him and payed someone to burry him for her.
If I were Sal I would try to talk to my father because I wouldn't like for him to love another woman. I would say, Dad why can't you let things be? I would be feeling mad because I miss my mom so much and I can't stand seeing my father loving anybody else. Sal should have a big talk wit her father and if that doesn't work she could try to get her mom and dad back together. I believe that Mrs. Cadaver did kill her husband just like Phoebe said. the way she chopped up her husband up and buried him the backyard reminds me of a story in the book The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe called The Black Cat. In this story a man killed his wife with an axe and buried her in the wall of their apartment house. He was arrested by the police and I hope that the same thing happens to Mrs. Cadaver.

ReplyDeleteI would not be Phobes Friend. She is very peculiar In ways and is very strange. The way she treats everyone is very anoying and mean.I think she acts like that because her father forces her to be like that. I think the one thing that causes this is the presure given by her dad to be like that.

ReplyDeletewath i would do is have a nice civilicized chat with my dad remembering him how awsome is my mom and wath will he loose if he marries another women. if that doesnt work i would talk about how bad i would feel if i loose my original mother. now if that doesnt work i will wait till he proposes her and in that same moment i would throw a egg at her and mayybe worst thing and tell her it was me so that she doesnt want to marry my dad i know that i will get grounded but it would be a risk that i wiill take whit a lot of plesure esspecially if i hate her.

ReplyDeleteThe chahrecter I like the most would be Phebee.she has a very funny mind of good and lunatic.the way the ather discribed her was so funny.I think she makes the story fun.she is so different from sal.Unlike sal she has a very funny mind.she is deffenetly my faveorit charecter in this book.
