I hope you're enjoying The View from Saturday. Please post in the comments section your answers to the questions below:
1. What new words have you learned from reading this book? What do they mean?
2. What do you think so far of the format of this book? (Meaning the way the author has a chapter that begins with a story about the quiz bowl and then jumps to a personal story about one of The Souls.) Do you like the way it is written from different points of view, or would you prefer one narrator? Why do you feel the way you do?
3. Please write 2-3 sentences about the book. You can talk about something you like, something you don't like, a prediction you have made, a connection or inference you've made, or anything else you'd like to discuss.
BEFORE YOU WRITE - please read what the other students have written and keep their thoughts in mind as you write yours.
This post must be on the blog by Friday at the beginning of class.
Mrs. Deutsch is posting a test comment.
ReplyDeleteI learned that cherubs mean the little baby angles in heaven. I also learned that incandescent means strikingly bright. I like the format of the authors reading because it show the way everybody looks at it so we can see the story in 3-D. I think what will happen is: the friendship of the souls will break, some how and they will try to build it again. While I was reading the book I remembered my friend in Korea, because he was really smart and he makes me think of Noah, because my friend was a genius that relied on facts too.
ReplyDeleteDear Mrs.D,
ReplyDeleteHere are the words that I did not know, but now I do, I learned that commissioner is a governmental department head. I also learned that cherubs mean baby angles in heaven. I learned that incandescent means very bright. I like the format of the author's reading because it makes the reader feel feel as though their in the book. I like the way that their are separate narrators, because then it makes the book more interesting. I think that the book is going to get a lot more funny, and I'm really starting to like it.
Hey class!
ReplyDeleteI did not understand these words onyx having straight parallel bands of alternating colors, coiffed means the state or fact of being diverse, also ripened means to be mature. I really like the way the author jumps from someones point of view to some one else's point of view. I love the story about Noah and the wedding. I think Mrs. Olinski is going to end up in the book still not knowing why she chose the Souls team. By the way I agree with Ju Young she does make it seem 3-D.

ReplyDeleteDear Class,
ReplyDeleteThe words that I didnt know were cherubs and coiffed. Now I know that cherubs means baby angels in heaven and coiffed that coiffed means style or arrange of someones hair. ReplyDeleteDear Class,
ReplyDeleteI like the way the author uses his way to jump between stories. I understand how each story will interlace with a question. This way is a very smart way to explain how each member of the Souls has one anecdote or narrative to awnser the question.

ReplyDeleteDear Ms. Deutsch,
ReplyDeleteIdidn't know what cheerubs wich are litte angels in heaven. Or onyx which is type of rock now i know what it is.
Also i like that it jumps from place to place because it tells me about the concursants and their experiences.
Dear Ms. Deutsch
ReplyDeleteI didnt know what cheerubs where either. I like the way the author jumps into stories but I think its unushual that everyone in the team of the souls where connected in one way it seems preety unushual to happen. For me the story is going preety well, im understanding everything that has happend. I think the members of the souls are geniouses ive never seen six graders that know so much stuff!!! ( and have had these kind of weird things happening to them.)
Dear ms deutsch
ReplyDeleteThe 2 words that i learned were "atrociosly" that means wiked and "hovering" that meansremaining in one place in the air.
I personaly like the way the author writes because its not the old fashion staying with one topic kind of thing and i like to when he changes topic and comes back to it. A thing i like about this book is especially the way that the author writes because as I said befpre its not the same stuck in the same topic kind of thing. a connection i had with a book is to a movie i saw that evry single story about the character sticks to another ones some way or another.
P.S i think the same i ju young the author writes it in 3D.
Dear Mrs.Deutsch,
ReplyDeleteI have learned (so far)5 words. They are precision, coiffed. onyx, incandescently, and atrociously. Precision: the state or quality of being precise. Coiffed:vStyle or arrange (someone's hair), typically in an elaborate way. Onyx: a variety of chalcedony having straight parallel bands of alternating colors. Incandescently: bright. Atrociously: extremely or shockingly wicked, cruel, or brutal.
I really like how the author jumps from character to character, event to event. It makes the story a lot more interesting, and like Ju Young said, it's like the author writes in 3-D.
I predict that something is going to happen to The Souls; maybe they will get in a fight or something, like Ju Young said. I think they will win the Trivia Quiz Bowl. I like how every character is related somehow.
I can't wait to read more!
Dani
Dear Ms Deutsch,
ReplyDeleteI love this book and so far. I now know cheerubs are the little baby angels and onyx is a type of rock. P.S. Before I thought onyx was a cleaning brand. I like how the format is but I perfer it was only one narrarater since its sometimes a little dificult to tell who is telling the story. I perdict that all the souls have a connection to one another. I like how all the personal storys link to a topic about the quiz bowl. Eg: Noah talks about the b and b letter and it links to one of the questions in the quiz bowl.

ReplyDeleteDear Ms. Deutsch,
ReplyDeleteI enjoy how the writer tells a conection into every question in the bowl because it gets us to know the characters better.
Ps: I can't wait to read more
Dear class,
ReplyDeleteSome words I did not know from the book are: Coiffed, onyx, brunette, and incandescently. Coiffed means close-fitting cap. Onyx means straight parallel bands of alternating colors. Brunette means dark color or dark tone, and incandescently means brilliant or white with heat.
I think the outher is great how he writes impresses me. I love when from one question in the bowl they connect to how they knew the answer from their formal live. I love the way he writes.
I have a prediction about the book. I think that at the end of the book all the storys would be connected some way some how like one story I read in B.O.B. It was called The Wihllobys which startes from a piont of view and then changes to another and at the end it finishes all the story bieng connected. As I told you before I think at the ned all of The Souls will be family.
Sincirely,
Luis Felipe
